WAVE Updates

December 2007

We are continuing to make progress behind the scenes on the WAVE project. We were happy to announce at the end of September that Creve Coeur and St. Louis County had given us all the required building permits. Unfortunately they required a number of design changes, so the construction part of the project needed to be re-bid. Our general contractor, Wachter, has given us a new price based on the updated drawings provided by the architect  which is approximately $7,000 higher than our earlier estimate of total project costs, but still within the amount of pledges we have received.

We are now in the process of ironing out all the details of the contract with Wachter. With the delays caused by the required design changes and the rebidding of the contract, we are obviously not going to meet our initial goal of having construction complete before Christmas. In our discussions we found that Wachter has a superintendent available to run the project beginning in early January. This later start will help to ensure the sanctuary is not torn up during December and, thus, will be fully available for our use through the Advent and Christmas season. In the meantime, there are many things that can be done to get ready for the construction. Wachter can put together a schedule, make shop drawings of the construction details, and start ordering materials. Cignal System, the sound system contractor, can order our new equipment. We can work on removing the contents of the anteroom/robing room.

We really appreciate everyone’s patience while we take care of all the pre-construction activities. We hope to have more visible signs of progress happening very soon.
