March 24, 2007 - Head Start Program Volunteers needed
Volunteers are needed to read to Head Start children in the St. Louis inner city schools.  The social ministry board has members willing to organize people who have free time during the day to spend a half an hour once a week with these children.  Day of the week and time depends on the consensus of the group.  And it would be best if we could car pool in one or two cars, depending on the size of the group.  Thirty minutes of your time once a week or every other week could make a difference for these many of these children who never have had an adult sit down with them and read to them, sing to them or show them an art project.  If interested, please call Diana Schramm.

March 24, 2007 - Help needed for ELCA radio ministry
Grace Matters, the ELCA radio ministry, only has funds to broadcast locally through the end of March. Won’t you support this outreach program to keep it on the air?

The ELCA has as a goal to reach out to people in all ethnic groups to proclaim the good news of God’s saving love in Jesus Christ. The broadcast of Grace Matters on Sunday mornings at 6:30 on WEW 770 AM is a wonderful way to reach beyond our church doors to spread that Good News on a station with a multiethnic format that provides Spanish, Italian, Croatian, German, Polish and Bosnian programming.  What a great way to reach across ethnic lines to tell people how much Grace Matters!

It costs $75.00 a week to continue to spread the message of God’s love and grace through this radio ministry. Will you help keep this radio ministry alive by writing a check in any amount addressed to the Metro Coalition, 6325 Clayton Rd., 63117 and indicate Grace Matters on the memo line?

The Greeting Card Ministry will have its next workshop on Monday, January 29th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Church Library.  The sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the front entrance.  We will be making Valentine’s, Easter and springtime cards.  All supplies are provided to create these special greeting cards, but please bring scissors for cutting paper.  Donations of postage, supplies of recycled cards, stickers, ribbons, glue, etc. are always needed and appreciated to assist this ministry.  If you have any questions, please call Peachie P. or Jan A.

October 22, 2006 - Musical Offering
Youth: If there are any youth who have had three years or more of graded instrumental instruction, they are invited to contact Kevin.  To play at school is one thing, but to offer your gift up as a musical offering to God is another. Parents, please encourage your son or daughter to play in an ensemble this fall. All music chosen will be appropriate for their level of ability. Opportunities exist for special music at the traditional service or the late service.

All members: Any and all congregational members who would be willing to stay after worship on Sunday, November 5 (8:15 a.m.) will have the opportunity to raise their voice in song on Sunday, November 12.  We will rehearse for 25 minutes after the early service, and then come together on the 12th at 7:40 a.m. for a final rehearsal and warm-up. It will be an opportunity for people to sing and be a part of the Sunday choir who normally do not participate.  Come, lift a song of joy!!

Added January 15, 2006: Knit1, Pearl2—Wrap Someone in Prayer
You formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. ---Psalm 139:13

To an experienced knitter, the above abbreviations signify knitting directions to “knit one stitch, purl two stitches.” But for those at Holy Cross who are interested in a new ministry being formed to provide encouragement, care, and prayer support for people who are ill or in a time of crisis, those abbreviations gain the added meaning of “knit one, pray too.”

Prayer Shawl Ministry grew out of the work of two ministers in Connecticut. Caring people meet to knit or crochet a shawl for someone in need. As they knit the shawl, they pray for the person who will receive the gift. When the shawl is completed, it is blessed and given as a tangible reminder of the prayers that have been offered on behalf of the recipient.

We’ll be surveying the congregation soon to identify those who wish to knit or crochet as well as those who would like to learn. Not interested in knitting or crocheting, but would like to help? We welcome your involvement as prayer partners or as the contact person for prayer and shawl requests. If you’d like more information in the meantime, please contact Karen H. at church (314-434-0546).

Added October 19, 2005: Singers Needed!
If you would like to sing in the choir but have a hard time making a commitment every Thursday evening, then we have an opportunity for you!  Come sing with the choir on Sunday, November 20, Christ the King Sunday. Two special anthems will be sung.  Come to one rehearsal on Thursday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m.  You will be given a CD in advance to help you learn your part. Contact Kevin Weichman for more details via email, music@holycrosselca.com or at home.

Come join us and sing a new song unto the Lord!

Added October 19, 2005: Multi-media volunteers needed
An informational meeting will be held at Holy Cross on Saturday, November 12 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will last one hour and you will learn ways that multi-media can impact the lives of others during worship, and how it can change your life by participating in this ministry. We need committed individuals to start this new ministry at Holy Cross. Ages 16 to adult are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Kevin Weichman at home or at music@holycrosselca.com

The tools are here. All we need is YOU!!!!!

Added August 24, 2005: Greeting Card Ministry Materials and Volunteers Needed
The Greeting Card Ministry has been established for two years.   They hand-make cards to send to those in our congregation who are in need of support and caring or who are celebrating special occasions.    They are a self-supporting group, recycling materials for the cards.  If you would like to support this ministry in the form of postage stamps or materials (old cards, stickers, paper, etc), please drop off your donations at the church office or give them to Peachie or Jan A.   If you would like to attend the Workshop on August 29th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., then contact Peachie.

Added August 12, 2005:  P.U.S.H.
The acronym P.U.S.H. stands for “Pray Until Something Happens”.  At Holy Cross, this means that an adult will be praying for each of our confirmation and high school students during the 2005-2006 school year.  The student will be lifted up to the Lord daily in prayer for God’s guidance and strength to withstand the many temptations of today’s society.

This is the 6th year that the Parish Life Education committee has sponsored this program, and we are now seeking volunteers to participate.  Sign-up sheets are on bulletin boards in the narthex and lower level by Fellowship Hall. A random selection process will take place in August, and you will be notified of your youth prayer pal.

Please say “YES!” to being a “P.U.S.H.-er” this year!

Added August 12, 2005:  Clean-up day help needed
The Property committee is sponsoring a Fall Clean-up day at Holy Cross on September 10. We will be cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, washing windows to freshen up our church. We will begin at 8:00 a.m. Volunteers are needed and most welcome.

Added August 12, 2005:  Sound technicians & roadies wanted
The Sound Team will serve the church at every public gathering by setting up, live-mixing, and tearing down the sound system.  This team of dedicated servants primarily supports the Worship Team, but are often called upon to support special performances, dramatic pieces, or multi-media presentations.   As a member of the Sound Team, you'll have the opportunity to learn about sound equipment care and use, as well as worship sound reinforcement, including sound-shaping, equalization, and other aspects of mixing.

We are also looking for "roadies" to join the team.  Roadies help with setting up and taking down sound equipment, under the supervision of the director of music.  Basic training is provided. This is a great opportunity for folks who want to train to become sound engineers.  This would be a perfect opportunity for our young men and women in junior high and high school.

If you are interesting in this worship ministry, please contact Kevin W at home or at music@holycrosselca.com.
