• Saturday, April 17th at 8:30 a.m. is the date for our next Community Breakfast.  Our speaker will be Carl M. Bender, professor of physics in arts and sciences at Washington University, reputed to be the world’s leading expert on lower dimensional quantum field theories, amazes you with his knowledge and expertise on black holes and other scientific areas of interest, including global warming.  

• Updated the details for the Progressive Dinner on Saturday, May 1st.   See the Social Events page.

• Alzheimer’s Seminar - SouthernCare, a hospice agency here in St. Louis, will be presenting a seminar at Holy Cross on May 4 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.  This seminar is being presented for nurses, social workers and long term care administrators for credit but is also open to anyone interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s at no charge.  The topics covered will be different types of dementia, Alzheimer’s brain pathology, advances in research and brain imaging, the FAST scale, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.  A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Please RSVP to SouthernCare at 314-692-7211 by Tuesday, April 27.

• Adult Forum topics for January 31st was changed.   Instead of Pastor Moore, their will be a question and answer session with the council in the chapel.  This is in preparation for the Annual Meeting on February 7th.

January 25, 2010 - News and Web updates:

• February 20th at 8:30 a.m. is the date for our next Community Breakfast.  Our speaker will be Angie Maue, whose son’s life was tragically ended by a young drunk driver outside the St. Louis Zoo nine years ago.  Angie will recount the story of that day and the subsequent events that led her to forgive the young man who killed her son.  She will present a DVD and discourse on underage drinking and driving.  Angie especially likes to talk with high school youth. 

• Financial Peace University is back!   Sponsored by the Finance Committee, Financial Peace University (FPU) is a 13-week biblically-based course that ties together scripture, finance, and stewardship.   Classes will be Saturday mornings from 9am-11am, starting February 6th.   See the FPU page for more information.
